S.W.A.T. Students Who Advance Technology

What is S.W.A.T.?

Students Who Advance Technology (S.W.A.T.) is a group of 4th and 5th grade students who have extreme knowledge of technology. These students were selected by their teachers to help Petroglyph's technology coordinator, Tia Turner. These students help teachers and students with technology problems and teach them new skills and programs.

We also coordinate with a national technology leadership program called GenYES (Generation - Youth and Educators Succeeding). Students record Technology Assistance Projects (T.A.P.s) as they complete projects that help students, teachers or community members.

S.W.A.T. Responsibilities

Each SWAT member helps their own teacher and is also assigned a buddy classroom in grades PreK-3rd  or the librarian as well.

Things the SWAT team can do to help advance technology at Petroglyph:

  • Fix minor problems and answer general questions about computers, iPads, document cameras, or Promethean Boards.
  • Assist with Promethean Board Questions
  • Clean computers and iPads
  • Run updates on iPads
  • Organize iPad apps into folders (if desired)
  • Lend a hand while working with students in a buddy classroom (PreK-3rd grades) on a  computer or iPad project…Perhaps in small group rotations. (Of course they would need permission from their homeroom teacher to be released for special projects.)
